Why should I buy a breast pump?

Flexibility: Feed bub breastmilk at anytime anywhere

Breastmilk has shown to be very beneficial for a baby's development. Breastmilk is full of nutrients, easy to digest and a mother's breastmilk changes to meet bub's demands. This is in particular important for bubs born preterm or with other health concerns.

Some bubs need to stay in hospital after birth. By using our electric breast pump, mums can express anywhere at any time. That way, bub can be fed when mum can not be around (e.g., at night) or when bub is not able to latch (e.g., in the incubator). At the same time, expressing also helps mums to establish their milk supply when away from bub, which is essential for the first 6 weeks post-partum.

Mums may need to return to work. By expressing breastmilk, your bub still gets your valuable breast milk at day care.

Some mothers prefer not to breastfeed in public. Expressing allows mums to feed their bubs expressed breast milk in a bottle, ensuring they still get the valuable nutrients.

It is recommended that mums should not consume alcohol when breastfeeding as this may affect the baby's development. Having skipped alcohol for 9 months already, some mums may be keen for a few glasses of wine so to say. By pumping before a glass of wine, mums can enjoy alcohol without feeling guilty. Their bub will still get their valuable breastmilk without any alcohol it.

Share feeding duties

Expressing breast milk allows others, such as partners and family members to feed bub, to foster bonding and allows mum to get some rest or have some me-time.

Healthy breasts: regulate your supply

Expressing can assist with regulating your milk supply. For those mums with low supply, pumping after a feed can assist with increasing your milk supply. Expressing also allows for relief when experiencing engorgement. By expressing, you can ensure your breasts are fully emptied, which can prevent health issues such as mastitis. During a period of mastitis, expressing allows you to empty your breast and maintain your supply when feeding your bub directly is too painful. Our most advanced model Luxe has a massage mode to assist with gently expressing to sooth sore breasts.

Relief from sore nipples

Expressing breastmilk allows sore and/or cracked nipples to heal while you are still able to feed your bub. Breastfeeding requires practice with latching for mums and their bubs. This may cause sore nipples, in particular during the first few weeks. Having a break from breastfeeding even for a few hours allows healing to take place to make breastfeeding an enjoyable experience again.

What is the difference between the two pumps?

Both MumsWay pumps are great options. Both are hands-free electric wearable pumps with strong suction, up to 280-300mmHG (hospital-graded suction levels), with up to 180ml milk storage.

We recommend the MumsWay Luxe pump if you are looking for:

- a very discreet pump (hide in your bra!)

- a pump that provides ultimate comfort (e.g., for sore nipples and optimised milk flow).

We highly recommend the MumsWay Forte pump if you are ''just'' after a pump with strong-suction that is affordable.
